India - honour and glory to comrade SARITA - Sarita played an important role in influencing tribal women to join BJSAC..

Reds in Jharkhand blame police-TPC nexus for Sarita’s death
RANCHI: Maoists in Jharkhand flexed muscles on the first day of their 48 hour bandh, which was called in protest against the killing of a prominent woman cadre, that began on Sunday midnight. However, the bandh was also aimed at issuing warning to the splinter groups which, according to Maoists, are working with the connivance of police to repress their movement. Sarita Ganjhu alias Urmila Ganjhu, a resident of Putki village under Simariya block of Chatra district, was a Jharkhand regional committee (JRC) member and a coopted invitee of the Bihar Jharkhand Special Area Committee (BJSAC). Sarita played an important role in influencing tribal women to join BJSAC, which lacks women cadres.
One of the members of BJSAC said Sarita was attacked by security forces from a very close range which was possible due to active participation of Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) cadres who accompanied security forces to the jungles. “The villagers are being armed and police have given a free hand to the TPC as a result of which Maoists are becoming soft targets within their own area,” said MZC’s Manas. Sources in the Madhya Zonal committee, (MZC) operative in Bihar said women have not been on the forefront in Bihar side of BJSAC and it was after intervention of senior leaders of the group that dedicated women Maoists from Jharkhand were pressed into the job of expanding party’s base in MZC and JRC.

The leaders in Bihar and Jharkhand have made efforts to utilize the bandh in movement of some of their troupes which assembled in the bordering regions to chalk out strategy for the coming months. Sources in the central committee said 48 years ago, the Naxalbari movement had its first military success on May 23 when a police team was ambushed. “The state took its revenge by killing eleven people two days later but the seed of Naxalbari movement was sown by then,” said one of the senior ideologues, explaining that the leaders have been asked to revisit the lessons of the past and garner popular support for the movement. ADG Jharkhand police SN Pradhan confirmed that the bandh was related to killing of Sarita Ganjhu. ”For them it was a martyrdom of their woman leader and they extended the bandh call in two states to show their solidarity,” he said.
